UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Ankalaev

  • Date: Saturday, March 12
  • Place: UFC Apex, Las Vegas, Nevada
  • Broadcast: ESPN+ 8 p.m. (ET) Prelims & 10 p.m. (ET) Main Card

Thiago Santos vs. Magomed Ankalaev Fight Odds

This fight is one of the most exciting matchups in the light heavyweight division. Thiago Santos broke his three-fight losing streak in October when he met fellow Brazilian Johnny Walker in the Octagon and won by decision. Previous to this win, Santos had an unsuccessful title shot against Jon Jones and a loss to Glover Texeira by decision.

UFC betting sites have Santos as the underdog because he is the much older of the two fighters at 38. Thiago also has nine losses compared to his opponents’ much cleaner record.

Magomed Ankalaev, on the other hand, is on an insane run to the top of the rankings. He has won his last seven fights in a row and has just one loss in the UFC. He has already shown his prowess as a dangerous striker, going the distance in his last two fights, and has an impressive knockout highlight reel from earlier bouts.

Ankalaev will enter as a big favorite, probably due to his insane form and proven cardio. But this will be his first five-round fight, which Santos has had plenty of experience with. With both fighters only having one submission each to their names, you can expect this fight to stay on the feet.

Marlon Moraes vs. Song Yadong Fight Odds

This co-main event is between the two closely-ranked bantamweight strikers. This 135lb matchup will see Moraes look to pick up a win to stick around in the top fifteen rankings.

Marlon Moraes is coming off the back of a three-fight losing streak after suffering stoppages against Cory Sandhagen, Rob Font, and Merab Dvalishvili. Moraes enters as the older fighter at 33 and will be the underdog to win.

Yadong has won three of his last four bouts, most recently stopping Julio Arce at the beginning of the second round. Although he is a much lower ranking than his opponent, he enters as the favorite. This might be due to how quickly he is beating higher-ranked fighters.

The 24-year-old has earned decisive wins against Marlon Vera, Vince Morales, and Alejandro Perez. He has a high striking output, of 4.88 significant strikes per minute in his UFC career.

This will not be an easy fight for Song, even though he has a ton of experience. Moraes has fought and beaten some of the best fighters at this weight.

Sodiq Yusuff vs. Alex Caceres Fight Odds

This featherweight matchup between #12 – Sodiq Yusuff, and #15 ranked – Alex Caceres promises to be a fun watch. Both fighters are competent strikers, so we will likely see them keep things standing on Saturday.

Yusuff was on a four-fight winning streak before meeting Arnold Allen last year where he lost lose via a unanimous decision. Previous to this loss the Nigerian has an impressive record and entered the UFC with a first-round knockout against Suman Mokhtarian.

The higher-ranked Sodiq Yusuff enters as the favorite. The younger of the two has a much better professional record with just two losses and six knockout wins. He will want to reclaim some form after what was a disappointing loss in his last fight.

Alex Caceres will meet Yusuff in the Octagon on Saturday, and he is coming off the back of some fantastic form, with five straight wins in the UFC.

The underdog Caceres is no stranger to defying the odds. In just his last fight against Seung Woo Choi, he entered as the underdog but went on to grab a victory with a rear-naked choke.

He is the older of the two and has managed to make nine submissions in his professional career. So that will be something that Yusuff, who is predominately a striker, will have to defend against.

Khalil Rountree vs. Karl Roberson Fight Odds

This fight will be a showcase of Ju-Jitsu against striking. We see Rountree enter the bout as a slight favorite after breaking a two-fight losing streak with a second-round stoppage against Modestas Bukauskas a few months back.

Khalil’s last win was the point of some controversy. He ended things with a kick to the knee against Bukauskas, which will now see him have to undergo some extensive rehab.

Roberson is on some poor form and will enter as a slight underdog after being submitted in the first round in his last two bouts.

The pair are about as evenly matched as it gets. Both have similar records and both are 6′ 1 with the same reach. Look for this to be a close fight with Roberson aiming to use his groundwork to get the win and Rountree aiming to end things standing.

Drew Dober vs. Terrance McKinney Fight Odds

Drew Dober was scheduled to fight with Ricky Glenn, but after Glenn broke the news that he had suffered a torn groin, McKinney has come in with just 14 days’ notice.

Drew Dober enters this bout after losing his last two professional fights against Islam Makhachev and Brad Riddell. But before that, we saw the American go 3 for 3 with knockouts, so he is definitely a dangerous fighter.

Terrance McKinney has one of the most breathtaking entrances to a UFC career possible. He knocked out Matt Frevola in just 7 seconds to take the fastest light-heavyweight win record. McKinney also proved he has impressive groundwork when he submitted Fares Ziam in the first round.

Despite his impressive start in the UFC, McKinney will enter as an underdog on the night to the more experienced Dober. This seems a little short-sighted from the oddsmakers, with Mckinney having a big reach advantage and already showing his immense striking and groundwork.

Alex Pereira vs. Bruno Silva Fight Odds

This all Brazilian bout will see these two fierce middleweights clash. Both have been recently introduced to the UFC and are on winning streaks.

Alex Pereira had a stunning UFC debut appearance where he knocked out Andres Michailidis at UFC 268 with a flying knee at the beginning of round two. He comes in as the favorite even though he has just five professional fights in all.

The impressive kickboxer has four straight knockout wins since joining the MMA world from his kickboxing come up. He will enter the Octagon with a 6-inch reach and 2-inch leg reach advantage.

This will be Silva’s fourth UFC bout, coming off the back of three mighty wins, two of which came in the first round. Whilst he is new to the UFC, he has 22 wins and 6 losses in his professional MMA career.

This fight promises to be one of the most explosive pairings of the night, with both of these guys having insane knockouts to their names. We can see this fight to remain standing with both Silva and Pereira more than confident with their striking game.
