This NFL Week 8 game sees the New York Giants face the Kansas City Chiefs on the road. Although the Giants are coming off a 25-3 destruction of the Carolina Panthers, they are still 2-5 and without star running back Saquon Barkley. This Monday-night matchup is a contest between two of the poorest defenses in the NFL. Currently, the Chiefs occupy the 27th spot for opponent points conceded per game with 29. The Giants, meanwhile, have a slightly better record of 25.7 points and sit in 25th.
Despite suffering a brutal loss to the Tennessee Titans in their last game, online sportsbooks still see the Chiefs as heavy moneyline favorites against the Giants. However, in an NFL season where shocking upsets have become the norm, the oddsmakers might have got this one wrong.
Game Preview: Kansas City Chiefs vs. New York Giants
Although the Kansas City defense has been awful this season, it wasn’t entirely to blame for the loss against the Titans. It was a combination of turnovers, dropped balls, no offensive line, and Mahomes’ poor decision-making. So, even though the Texan quarterback is available despite a concussion scare during last week’s game, he needs to rediscover his form.
The Chiefs showed they’re not entirely useless at defending by limiting Derrick Henry to 86 rushing yards after the half. Yet, he was still able to toss a touchdown. The defense didn’t have much luck against A.J Brown, though. He got 133 receiving yards and bagged a TD.
As for the Giants, they are coming off a 25-3 against the Carolina Panthers. Despite the scoreline, the stats show they weren’t that impressive. Daniel Jones threw for 203 yards and one touchdown, whereas Devontae Booker led the team in rushing with only 51 yards and one touchdown.
The bad news for anyone looking to place prop bets on star Giants players is that Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney, and Sterling Shepard could miss this game. It may be unwelcome news for bettors, but it will delight the Chiefs, as they should have enough to shut out this weakened Giants team. However, if Kansas City performs as they did in Week 7, New York could still win against the odds.
