Max Verstappen F1 Odds
Max Verstappen overtaking Lewis Hamilton

Max Verstappen will be seeking to build on his dominant performance in the Styrian Grand Prix last weekend as he returns to Red Bull Ring for the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix as a huge -180 favourite this weekend.

Verstappen has now won four races this season and extended his advantage over defending champion Lewis Hamilton to 18 points in the Formula One Drivers Standings.

With teammate Sergio Perez also putting in consistent performances, Red Bull now has a 40-point lead over Mercedes in the F1 Constructors Standings, and are huge -223 favourites to end Mercedes’ seven-year run of F1 Constructor title victories.

In the Austrian GP second practise session on Friday, Lewis Hamilton dominated, giving Mercedes hope of closing the gap on Red Bull. Hamilton won by 0.189 seconds over teammate Valtteri Bottas, with title challenger Max Verstappen trailing by 0.217 seconds.

For the first time since 2016, Hamilton is a +220 second favourite after going winless in four straight games in a single season. Valtteri Bottas, his Mercedes colleague, is the defending champion at this event, and is odds of +1100 along with Sergio Perez. It’s then +5000 or bigger the rest.

Can anyone stop Max Verstappen this weekend?

With an imperious performance last weekend, Max Verstappen continued his relentless march towards his first Formula One title. Verstappen’s victory was his ninth top-two result in 11 races dating back to last season, including five wins.

Mercedes has had a lot of success at Red Bull Ring, winning five of the last eight races there, with Hamilton and Bottas each claiming the checkered flag twice.

Weather Warning

After a searing hot weekend for the Styrian Grand Prix last weekend, temperatures are anticipated to be much cooler this weekend, with rain a possibility. That should please Red Bull’s competitors, who will seize whatever advantage they can get.

The switch to softer tyres for this weekend will have an impact on pit stop strategy for all ten teams, since few drivers are likely to complete the race with only one pit stop.

Podium Picks

As a result, anyone betting on the Austrian Grand Prix may want to look elsewhere for value. Bottas is a great +100 bet to finish in the top three again, given his recent strong performance on this circuit, where he has finished on the podium in five of his last six appearances.

Sergio Perez has also been consistent with four successive top four finishes which included a victory in Azerbaijan. Bovada’s F1 odds offer him up at +100 to make the podium once again in Austria.
