Ladd v Dumont Preview

This fight has been hastily scheduled at short notice, after Holly Holm was forced to withdraw last week due to a knee injury and an agreement was made for Ladd to step in.

It’s been an eventful couple of weeks for Ladd, who herself was supposed to have been fighting at the beginning of October in a bantamweight bout against Macy Chiasson, only for the fight to be canceled after Ladd came in one pound heavy on the sale on weigh-in day.

Aspen Ladd Winning Odds

Ladd now moves up to the 145 pounds division in the hope that will alleviate any weight issues.

The 26-year-old Ladd from Pioneer, California hasn’t fought since December 2019, when she stopped Russia’s Yana Kunitskaya with a TKO win in the 3rd round. Since then, Ladd’s had a number of scheduled fights fall through for a variety of reasons, including recovering from a torn ACL and MCL.

Norma Dumont Winning Odds

Dumont, a 31-year-old Brazilian, was last in action in May this year, when she beat the Canadian Felicia Spencer via a split decision. That victory was the biggest win of Dumont’s UFC career to date.

It’s not going to be an easy fight for Dumont, as she now has to adjust her preparations accordingly for her new opponent.

Now, instead of facing former boxing and UFC champion Holm, Dumont (who’s had issues herself previously in making the weight for fights) will come up against a predominantly grappling-based fighter in Ladd.

Ladd v Dumont Betting Odds

The Fight Result betting odds with Bovada Sportsbook sees Aspen Ladd as the marginal favorite to win at –140, with Norma Dumont on offer at odds of +115.

Given the length of time Ladd has been away from the Octagon, problems making the weight for her previous fight and perhaps some doubts as to her focus given how long she’s been away, there could potentially be some value in backing Dumont to win this fight.

Andrei Arlovski vs Carlos Felipe

Also on this UFC Vegas 40 card is a heavyweight bout between Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski (31-20-0) and Carlos “Boi” Felipe (11-1-0).

  • Andrei Arlovski, a 42-year-old veteran from Belarus, was last in action in April this year when he beat Chase Sherman via a unanimous decision.
  • The 26-year-old Brazilian Carlos Felipe last fought in June, when he claimed a split decision victory against Jake Collier.

This bout is essentially a pick ‘em fight with the online & Vegas sportsbooks, with Bovada making Arlovski a very marginal favorite in the Fight Result betting odds at –115. For those looking to wager on Felipe, the Brazilian can be backed at slightly better odds of –105.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Arlovski is a legend in the game, but he’s now a 42-year-old legend and if Felipe pressures him throughout the three rounds of the fight as he has promised to, his superior cardio could be rewarded.

Although Arlovski’s won three of his last four fights, he’s actually lost 10 of the last 16 dating back to the start of 2016.

He’s certainly not an easy opponent for anyone and his vast experience can unquestionably be a factor in his favor too. However, Felipe is a young fighter on the rise and will see a win over Arlovski as being the next step in his development.
