The Nitto ATP Finals which begins this Sunday is the year-end highlight of the ATP Tour season where the best male players in the world gather to compete. Number two seed Daniil Medvedev will try to defeat odds-on favorite and number one seed Novak Djokovic. Get insights and the latest odds for this ATP Men’s Finals tournament.

How Are the ATP Finals Organized?

This year’s Finals are held in Turin, Italy from November 14 to 21. This is the “final shootout” to claim the last major prize on the tennis calendar and is known as the fifth Grand Slam.

This event features the world’s best eight qualified singles players and is contested on indoor hardcourts, in a round-robin format with the best four players reaching the knockout semi-finals stage.

The draw puts the top-seeded player in Group A, whilst the second-seeded player goes to Group B, meaning there’s a good chance of the world’s two best players meeting in the final.

Then the players seeded three and four are first put into a hat and randomly drawn into each group. The same then happens for the fifth and sixth seeds, and then the seventh and eighth seeds. In the end, there will be two groups, both featuring four players.

Predicting The Winner

Only the very best players qualify for the ATP Finals. The elite male players are selected by their overall performance over the prior 12 months, so to predict the winner, it’s worth studying the form of the leading players throughout that period rather than just looking at the Grand Slam winners. There have been six different men’s singles winners in the last six years but consistency counts.

With eight players lining up to play, the pack can be split with the top four seeds tipped to progress to the semis.

1. Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic was the first to qualify this year as early as July after winning three Grand Slam titles: the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon Championships. His confidence ahead of Turin must be high as he has won the competition five times and retains the #1 ranking in the world. So as you would expect, the ATP Finals odds suggest he is the bookie’s favorite to win the event.

2. Daniil Medvedev

The current ATP Men’s Singles Champion, Daniil Medvedev has had significant success this year, culminating in winning the US Open Grand Slam to stop Djokovic from winning the Calendar Slam. His on-court performances have led him to climb the world rankings to become the world’s #2. He won last year’s tournament convincingly and without losing a single match. The competitors he beat included Novak Djokovic in the round-robin, Rafa Nadal in the semi’s, and Dominic Thiem in three sets ( 4-6, 7-6, 6-4) in the final.

3. Stefanos Tsitsipas

The 2019 ATP Men’s Singles Champion Stefanos Tsitsipas, who has won over 50 matches in the 2021 season including two Masters tournaments, will once again be looking for a win having reached the French Open Grand Slam final for the first time this year. He is a true athlete, an intelligent player, and has beaten all of the top seeds during his career. This includes Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic, so he isn’t afraid of competing against the best in the world. However, he recently withdrew from the Masters event in Paris due to an elbow injury so this puts his readiness to compete into question.

4. Alexander Zverev

Tokyo’s Olympic gold medalist Alexander Zverev is currently in his best form. He has an enormous serve and when he is serving well, his serve is almost untouchable. This puts a lot of pressure on his opponents to try to dominate the points, which isn’t easy against a player like Zverev.

Some Factors to Consider When Betting

Tie Breaker Record

With matches only being 3 sets and the final set being decided by a tie break, the format will favor those players who start fast and recover quickly. Look for players who have a strong tie break record, that might be the edge to help them win the match.

Hard Court Performances

As the ATP Finals are played on a hardcourt, check out how players have performed in previous hardcourt tournaments during the season. The ability to control a point and deal with the faster, higher bounces may be a big benefit.

Playing Indoors

The ATP Finals are played indoors, and with a traditionally vocal crowd at this event, the noise levels can be a challenge. Consider who can best deal with the pressure.
