The Australian Open has entered its final few days, and fans now await the drama of the men’s final this Sunday, January 30. Daniil Medvedev and Rafa Nadal will face off against each other at 7. 30pm local time from Melbourne Park. Bettors can get insights and the latest betting odds for this Grand Slam final.

Daniil Medvedev

The number two seed Daniil Medvedev entered the 2022 season after the best year of his career. He had an incredible win at the US Open, denying Novak Djokovic his fourth Grand Slam of the year. He made the quarter-finals in France and secured his career-best placement in Wimbledon.

Medvedev, aged 25, is now aiming to go one step further at the Australian Open than last year when he lost the final to Djokovic who hasn’t played at Melbourne Park this year. Djokovic was deported from Australia after his visa was revoked because he was unvaccinated.

He has had a solid run in this Grand Slam, saving a match point before producing a stunning comeback against Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals (6-7, 3-6, 7-6, 7-5, 6-4). His semi-final against Stefanos Tsitsipas, winning 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 was a supreme performance, where he produced tennis of the highest quality. He broke away from Tsitsipas in the 3rd set and played a near-perfect 4th set.

Top online sportsbooks have him as favorite to win this Grand Slam.

Rafael Nadal

Online bookmakers have priced Rafael Nadal at +151 to win. The thirty- five -year old Spanish tennis player and world no. 5 is now pursuing a record-breaking 21st Grand Slam title which would move him clear of long-time rivals Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. He is the oldest man in the Open Era to reach a Grand Slam final after Ken Rosewall, Roger Federer, and Mal Anderson. That is all the more remarkable considering just four months ago Nadal’s recovery from a foot operation was uncertain to the point that he wasn’t sure whether he would ever play tennis again.

Nadal’s run at this year’s Australian Open has been impressive. He produced some of his best tennis to outlast Denis Shapovalov in a memorable quarterfinal battle, winning 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 6-3, despite struggling physically in the fourth set. In his semi-final win against Matteo Berrettini ( 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3), he exuded energy from the start, firing his forehand with ferocity, and serving with authority. He was able to conserve his energy, which may be key in his match against Medvedev who is 10 years younger.
