The PGA TOUR has agreed on a three-year extension of its partnership with sports betting operator FanDuel. The online sportsbook originally signed a deal with the non-profit organization to become an official partner in August 2020. The extension of this partnership means that FanDuel can continue using PGA TOUR’s social media account – Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram – to publish odds-based content.

“Incredible Growth”

According to a statement released on the PGA TOUR website on January 10, Senior Vice President of Media and Gaming Norb Gambuzza said, “FanDuel is a market leader in the United States and we look forward to extending our relationship in the sports betting space for three more years,

“FanDuel continues to see incredible growth in its golf products and is poised for additional growth through its partnership with Jordan Spieth. Integrating FanDuel’s odds into our social content provides relevant storylines and up-to-date betting information for fans who want to get involved in sports betting in our sport.”

The agreement allows FanDuel to use PGA TOUR logos for US marketing purposes. The deal also lets the sportsbook advertise its services on platforms owned by the golfing organization.

The CMO of FanDuel Group, Mike Raffensperger, stated: “We are excited to continue our relationship with the PGA TOUR, a partnership that has been one of our most innovative and groundbreaking since its inception.

“We value the TOUR’s willingness to be a first mover in bringing new features like real-time highlights into our app which enhance the entertainment experience for the TOUR’s passionate fans.”

The extension of the deal with FanDuel comes a month after the PGA TOUR agreed to extend its betting operator partnership with BetMGM.

The Rise of Sportsbook Partnerships

After the Supreme Court deemed PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act) unconstitutional in 2018, new deals between sporting organizations and betting operators became possible. Before this change to US betting laws, some parties opted against partnering with online betting sites because of the legal risks.

However, this has all changed and many operators have joined forces with sports organizations in the last five years. For example, online betting operator DraftKings is the official fantasy sports partner of the NFL, MLB, NASCAR, PGA Tour, and UFC as well as an authorized gaming operator of the NBA and MLB, and an official betting operator of the PGA TOUR, UFC, and NFL.

The best golfers in the world – such as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Rory McIlroy – compete in events organized by the PGA TOUR. Based in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, the PGA TOUR organizes various professional golf competitions: the PGA TOUR, PGA TOUR Champions, Korn Ferry Tour, PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, and PGA TOUR Canada. This non-profit organization has generated more than $3.2 billion for worthy causes with these events. However, its tag as a not-for-profit organization has been questioned in recent years.
