Can Joe Biden win another Term as U.S President?

President Joe Biden’s election campaign focused heavily on addressing climate change, which he described as a “existential menace” to the world. Biden planned to deliver his domestic climate package ready when he arrived at COP26. However, in-fighting with Democratic Senators has cast doubt on his authority and chances of re-election.

Since his election as President, Biden’s popularity has waned, dropping from 53% to 43% in less than a year

President Biden’s most recent challenge is persuading Republican and Democratic Senators to support his Build Back Better stimulus program. The bill intends to reactivate the economy following the pandemic lockdown. It examines what can be done to enhance the economy and people’s lives in the United States. Taxes, the climate problem, health care, child care, housing, and immigration rules would all be altered as part of the package. President Biden’s stimulus package was originally estimated at $3.5 trillion, but it was lowered to $1.75 trillion amid significant opposition from both sides of the House. The package’s debates may have an impact on online bookies’ odds for Biden’s re-election.

The odds for Biden to serve another term by winning the next US presidential election is +350 at BetUS.

Losing Votes: Tax Increases

The original $3.5 trillion deal had a lot of people worried. Many Republicans and Democrats believed that injecting such a significant sum of money into the economy would result in massive inflationary pressures. Others, such as Democrat Kyrsten Sinema, questioned how the proposal would be paid for and opposed raising taxes to fully fund the trillion-dollar plan.

The Climate Action Plan

The stimulus plan includes a $555 billion budget for green economy and climate initiatives, making it the most generous clean-energy budget in American history. Rather than regulating carbon emissions, Biden’s strategy to addressing the climate catastrophe is to offer tax credits and incentives to all Americans and American businesses. Installing solar panels, enhancing housing insulation efficiency, and moving to electric vehicles would all be rewarded with incentives. The $3.5 trillion stimulus package’s original goal was to make more radical adjustments to reduce emissions more quickly. Electric producers who transition to renewable energy sources will be rewarded, while those who continue to use fossil fuels will be fined. Joe Manchin is still leading the opposition from his own side.

Dissent from within the Democratic Party

Joe Manchin is the senator for West Virginia, a coal-rich state that directly employs about 14,000 miners. He owns a majority stake in his son’s coal brokerage firm, which is currently valued at $1 million. More political contributions from the oil, electrical, and gas industries have gone to Manchin than any other senator.

Betting on The Midterm Elections

Many see Manchin as a narrow-minded politician who is incapable of seeing beyond local concerns. Still, he might have a broader outlook than just protecting the coal and energy sector. West Virginia is a conservative state that supports Donald Trump and has voted for him twice in presidential elections. The Democrats only have a majority of one seat in the Senate, and with the Midterms approaching fast, they need every single Seat to maintain control. Perhaps Manchin’s strategy to fight his own Democratic Party and appear more like a Republican will appeal to his voters come the Midterms.

With his Build Back Better plan in place, Joe Biden intends to take to the world stage and play a leading role in the COP26 climate summit. The reality is that Biden left for Glasgow with his bill still being debated. He has already dropped many of the popular campaign promises to progress this far. His re-election chances look increasingly precarious, as does the Democrats’ control of both Houses in the Midterm elections.
