Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors

After destroying the Denver Nuggets in the series opener, Vegas oddsmakers have the Golden State Warriors as heavy favorites to repeat the feat in Game 2 on Monday night.

Denver couldn’t contain Jordan Poole, who scored 30 points to lead the Dubs to a 123-107 victory. Will the Nuggets come up short again, or could they grab a much-needed win before heading back to Mile High City?

The Joker Needs to Get Serious

Although it was never going to be easy for the Nuggets in Game 1 against Golden State, MVP favorite Nikola Jokic has the ability to help Denver upset the odds. However, his effort of 25 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists wasn’t enough in Game 1.

Draymond Green and Kevon Looney limited the Serb to 12-for-25 from the field and 0-for-4 from beyond the arc. Despite the Nuggets only committing 10 turnovers, the Dubs turned them into 20 points.

Denver got dominated in most categories and played catch-up for most of the game as a result. Jokic needed his supporting cast members to step up to the plate to stand a chance against the Warriors.

Jokic needed his supporting cast to step up to the plate.

Will Barton made a valiant effort by scoring 24 points – but only two other players finished with 10 points apiece. The Nuggets drained a paltry 31% of their triples and only posted a 46% clip from the field. They also lacked a killer instinct in the paint, getting outscored 20-8 in second-chance points.

After Denver’s poor showing, NBA betting sites lengthened the Nuggets’ championship title odds from +2500 to +8000. Still, you can never rule out Denver with the Joker and his bag of tricks on their side. If Jokic can take over and his teammates step up their shot-making game, they could get a much-needed win to level things up before Game 3.

Warriors Are Scarily Strong

Even with Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson all in action, youngster Jordan Poole was the main head-turner in Game 2. The youngster erupted offensively in the starting five in place of Curry, dropping 30 and shooting 9-for-13 overall against Denver.

…Poole’s performance gives Steve Kerr a dilemma…

Curry still got 16 off the bench in his first game since missing 12 matchups due to injury, but Poole’s performance gives Steve Kerr a dilemma: should he send Poole back to the second unit or keep bringing Steph off the bench until he’s fully fit? This is not a bad conundrum to have.

They look unstoppable after pulling off 33 assists against the Nuggets, and if Curry finds his rhythm soon, Golden State could go all the way.

Although the Jokic and co. won’t go down without a fight, expect the Warriors to send a message to other teams by covering the spread on Monday night.
