Max Scherzer has joined the New York Mets in a multi-year deal. Making the move after spending six months with the LA Dodgers, Scherzer is the biggest signing of the offseason so far. The acquisition of the experienced impact player has improved the Mets’ odds of winning the 2022 World Series. However, other moves have shifted the MLB betting odds online for next year’s championship series.

Are New Pitchers the Key for the Mets?

Scherzer’s recent move means that the New York Mets possibly have the best pitching staff in the MLB. Not many predicted that the 37-year-old would refind his excellent form after a poor start to the year. But after leaving the Nationals for the Dodgers just before the trade deadline, he went 7-0 with a 1.98 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and bagged an incredible 11.1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 11 starts for LA. He now joins a lineup with the best pitcher in baseball, Jacob deGrom.

DeGrom was in such fine form that breaking Bob Gibson’s modern-day ERA record (1.12) was on the cards. Unfortunately for him, he picked up an injury and therefore failed to qualify. Despite this setback, he ended the year with a 1.02 ERA and 0.55 WHIP in 92.0 innings.

Although the rest of the Mets’ rotation is still in flux, the addition of another star pitcher and the signings of Starling Marte and Eduardo Escobar have led online sportsbooks to improve the team’s World Series odds. Many expect General Manager Billy Eppler to continue adding more players to his lineup. There are quality free agents on the market – Robbie Ray, Clayton Kershaw, Eduardo Rodriguez, Zack Greinke, and the Mets’ own Marcus Stroman, to name a few. Currently, bookmaker Bovada has the Mets at +1200 to win the championship series in 2022. However, If Eppler signs any of these players, the sportsbook will surely change their futures odds.

Toronto Blue Jays Sign Gausman but Lose Seiman

Toronto made a statement by signing Kevin Gausman away from San Francisco. The pitcher had the best season of his career in 2021, achieving a 2.81 ERA and 1.04 WHIP and finishing sixth in NL Cy Young voting. The Bluejays also re-signed Jose Berrios because of the uncertainty surrounding the future of Robbie Ray. Since his move from Minnesota, Berrios went 5-4 with a 3.58 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 12 starts. These signings seem to have balanced the departure of Marcus Seiman to keep the Blue Jays’ opening odds the same (+1250).

Could the Mariners Make the Playoffs?

After shocking MLB fans by pushing for a playoff spot last year, Seattle has signed All-Star second baseman Adam Frazier. This move alone indicates that they are building for the present, not the future. Despite this encouraging sign for Mariners fans, third baseman Kyle Seasgar and starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi are now free agents.

The possibility of Seattle building on their progress from last season makes them a tempting underdog bet to win the next MLB World Series at +3000.
