Max Scherzer has signed a multi-year contract with the New York Mets. Scherzer is the biggest signing of the offseason so far, after spending six months with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Mets’ chances of winning the World Series in 2022 have been boosted thanks to the addition of the veteran impact player. Other signings, on the other hand, have changed the chances for the championship series next year.
Are the Mets’ new pitchers the key to their success?
With Scherzer’s addition, the New York Mets may have the best pitching staff in baseball. After a shaky start to the year, few expected the 37-year-old to regain his previous form. He was 7-0 with a 1.98 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and an astounding 11.1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 11 starts for the Dodgers after departing the Nationals shortly before the trade deadline. He’ll now be part of a lineup that includes Jacob deGrom, baseball’s best pitcher.
DeGrom was in such good form that he was on the verge of smashing Bob Gibson’s modern-day ERA record (1.12). Unfortunately for him, he sustained an injury and therefore was unable to compete. Despite this setback, he finished the season with a 1.02 ERA and 0.55 WHIP across 92.0 innings pitched.
Despite the fact that the remainder of the Mets’ rotation is still up in the air, the acquisition of another quality pitcher plus the additions of Starling Marte and Eduardo Escobar have boosted the team’s MLB World Series odds.
Many believe that General Manager Billy Eppler will continue to bolster his roster. Robbie Ray, Clayton Kershaw, Eduardo Rodriguez, Zack Greinke, and the Mets’ own Marcus Stroman, to mention a few, are all quality free agents.
