The Australian Open is always the first Grand Slam tennis tournament of the season and, Covid-19 pandemic notwithstanding, that should be the case in 2021 too.

Australian Open Tournament Director Craig Tiley has categorically ruled out staging the event if players are forced into two weeks of hard quarantine, but is currently “absolutely” confident the Open will go ahead as planned.

When is the Australian Open 2021?

Changes to the schedule certainly can’t be ruled out but as things stand, the tournament was due to start on Monday, 18 January 2021 and run through to Sunday, 31 January 2021 – however it has been announced that the tournament will start in February 2021 instead.
